What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the oldest continuously practiced medical system in the world and used by one-third of the world as a primary health-care system. It is based on nature and the natural laws that govern the movement of the life energy in our bodies. This life energy (called Qi or Chi, pronounced chee) must flow freely with proper strength and quality for the body to function properly. When this energy is blocked or out of balance, symptoms, pain and disease can develop. Acupuncture treatment restores the body's natural balance and ability to heal.

The World Health Organization and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have endorsed acupuncture for the treatment of 45 conditions. A safe and gentle system of medicine, acupuncture is widely known for its ability to alleviate pain, reduce stress and promote healing.

How Can Acupuncture Help You?

Acupuncture is effective for many health concerns such as:

  • Stress
  • Headaches
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Insomnia and Sleep issues
  • Menstrual, PMS and Menopause symptoms
  • Fertility
  • Depression and Anxiety
  • Allergies
  • Back, Neck and Shoulder pain
  • Digestive complaints
  • Arthritis
  • Complaints that have no easily determined cause
In a recent national survey of patients receiving acupuncture, 91% reported a disappearance or improvement of symptoms, 70% avoided recommended surgery and 78% used fewer prescription drugs. Acupuncture is also used for health maintenance and preventive care. You need not be ill to benefit from treatment; you only need a desire to improve the quality of your life and well being.

The Relationship Between Acupuncture and
Other Medical Care

Even though Chinese and Western medicine are different, they complement each other. Combining the benefits of both is recommended. Patients continue seeing their doctors and taking prescribed medications. Any medication changes are made with the approval of your physician.
